Notes to Students
  • Credits previously used to earn other academic qualifications at bachelor degree level or above, at the University or elsewhere cannot be transferred.
  • To graduate with a bachelor's degree from the University, students must complete a minimum of two years of full-time study at HKUST and obtain a minimum 60 HKUST course credits regardless of the number of credits transferred.
  • Students who enter the University with credit transfer of 10 credits or more (including block transfer) are not eligible for the half-weight concession in the first year of study in the calculation of Graduation Grade Average.
  • For students with block transfer of 9 University Common Core credits, their other credits transferred on entry cannot be used as required or elective credits to fulfill the University Common Core requirements in the following areas: Humanities (H), Social Analysis (SA), Science and Technology (S&T), Quantitative Reasoning (QR) and Arts.
  • There are other restrictions on the use of transfer credits in certain degree requirements. Students should refer to the Program Catalog for details.
  • Transfer credits granted based on qualifications obtained outside HKUST are not included in the calculation of grade averages and are denoted with a "T" grade.
  • Students will not be given transfer credits for courses which have been taken at HKUST or their exclusions, and vice versa. Students should refer to the Course Catalog for the details on course exclusions.
  • HKUST reserves all its rights to approve or disapprove applications for credit transfer at its sole discretion.
